The Sydney Convicts are Australia’s first gay Rugby Union team. The team was founded in 2004 with the aim of representing Sydney in the World Cup of gay Rugby, the Mark Bingham Cup, in which we achieved a rank of third in the world. Under the banner of Woollahra Colleagues RFC, the Convicts proved their ability to hold their own in mainstream competition by winning (undefeated) the 2005 Halligan Cup in the Sydney Suburban Rugby Union. The Convicts subsequently travelled to New York in 2006 to contest the third Bingham Cup, winning both the Cup and Plate competitions. The Convicts are committed to building a competitive, social and diverse club and welcome players regardless of their sexual orientation, ethnicity, age or playing experience.
