2015 08 13 Wear it purple

Over the last year, many of our members have raised the challenges of ensuring the LGBTI inclusion initiatives reach their regional and remote employees. The 2018 AWEI underscored the importance of this focus, by highlighting lower levels of inclusion and significantly higher levels of bullying and harassment in workplaces in regional Australia.

With this in mind, and as part of our Regional Reach strategic initiative, Pride in Diversity is launching the first of a series of regional cross-member programs. The program is a combination of training, discussion and networking. At the request of our members, this will be held in Townsville on the 30th and 31st August (to coincide with Wear It Purple Day). James Cook University has kindly offered to co-host much of the program.

We realise many of our members have employee locations in Townsville and we would appreciate those of you who do, to proactively distribute the flyer [click here to download] to your management on the ground, encouraging their teams’ participation, irrespective of whether they are executives, management or professional employees. Many Federal and Queensland Government department agencies, as well as national private sector organisations, have indicated their support and engagement. It would be wonderful to see a broad cohort of members represented at the various events included in the program.

We will hold a similar program in Geelong on the 25th September. If these prove effective, we will expand into other locations across Australia, with our members, for our members.

All Townsville events are free, but bookings are essential!

2015 08 13 Wear it purple

"Wear it Purple Day" is a day to show support for young people who identify as sexuality diverse, gender diverse or intersex and to raise awareness about LGBTIQ youth suicide and bullying.

As part of this day, the NSW Police Force Central Metropolitan Region will be hosting an event on Friday 31st August, 2018, in Hyde Park, Sydney. The event is being supported by City of Sydney Council, Defence units and other uniformed services.

As Defence, first responders and emergency service personnel, we can play a vital role in supporting all LGBTIQ community members in their right to be proud of who they are.

Wear it Purple is an excellent opportunity for community engagement specifically promoting the prevention of homophobic and transphobic bullying and violence and the impacts on young people.

The theme for this year is "Empower Together".”

Perisher - Ski Trip - 2019

The 2019 Ski Trip will be following the same concept as the previous year. We have organised two cabins for up to 20 people at Pender-Lea Chalets, a 10 min drive from Jindabyne. The comfortable chalets come equipped with a full kitchen, fridge, freezer and cooking equipment.

Due to popularity we are opening the trip to early registrations to secure a booking and ensure people don’t miss out. We will be releasing the total cost when the 2019 ski season rates are confirmed.

A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot: $100 for singles, and $200 for twin-share private rooms

The 'serious snow' cabin has a lights-out policy at 2300 each night for those who prefer to get in a good night's sleep ahead of hitting the slopes.
