For the fourth year in a row, PwC Australia will stand with DEFGLIS to support the Military Pride Ball in 2019. PwC Partner and GLEE@PwC lead Marty Jovic spoke to our Communications Team about the importance of organisations like PwC and DEFGLIS demonstrating authentic leadership.

The 2019 Military Pride Ball will be held on Saturday, 5 October at the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney to celebrate the diverse sexuality and gender community’s contribution to Defence capability.

For the fourth year in a row, PwC Australia is supporting the Ball as a Platinum Tier Sponsor.

Marty Jovic is a Partner at PwC Australia and leads the National Health Economics & Policy practice. He also takes pride in leading PwC's GLEE (Gay, Lesbian and Everyone Else) network. Jovic discussed the importance of making people feel comfortable and supported to be themselves at work and at home.

“As a large organisation in Australia and an employer of 8,500 amazing people, PwC recognises and gladly accepts the responsibility to lead by example. We are committed to driving initiatives that promote D&I best practice,” said Jovic.

DEFGLIS Vice President Joe Monteith applauded the support and thanked PwC for their continued contributions supporting DEFGLIS and inclusion in Defence.

“The DEFGLIS association relies on the contributions and shared vision of supporting organisations like PwC,” said Monteith.

Monteith stressed that important events that strengthen our community such as Military Pride Ball would not be possible without support from PwC and other sponsor organisations.

“Military Pride Ball is our annual fundraising event that allows us to gather and celebrate the strength of our people and their families. We are proud to stand with PwC and celebrate how inclusion is changing the way that Australian workplaces deliver results,” said Monteith.

DEFGLIS advocates for initiatives supporting inclusion within Defence, and champions the idea that Defence needs to foster diverse perspectives to remain innovative and strong and support capability in the defence of Australia.

Jovic said that PwC has also placed diversity and inclusion at the centre of their strategy.

“We respect and encourage individuality because we know that when people from different backgrounds and with different points of view unite, we create the most value – for our clients, our people and society.” said Jovic.

PwC and DEFGLIS have collaborated on a number of important D&I initiatives. In 2018, PwC welcomed a DEFGLIS member to join an advisory committee to share insights about how best an employer can support transgender people during or after transitioning.

This resulted in the development of updated guidelines for people at PwC who are transitioning and affirming their gender, and policy recommendations that were endorsed by PwC's Executive Board.

Jovic said he was excited to catch up and meet new faces at Shangri La Hotel next month, and reflected on his previous years attending Pride Ball.

“The highlight of my Military Pride Ball experiences has been the opportunity to meet the wonderfully diverse members of ADF to learn more about what inclusion and respect means to them,” said Jovic.

“It’s a ‘must attend’ event that my colleagues and I look forward to each year!” he said.

Final release tickets for the 2019 Military Pride Ball are in limited supply, book now before it sells out.
