THE person behind the stirring speech delivered by Army Chief Lieutenant General David Morrison in the wake of shocking revelations about an army email sex ring was his transgender speechwriter, Lieutenant Colonel Cate McGregor.

Formerly Malcolm McGregor, Lieutenant Colonel McGregor is the highest ranking of six transgender people serving in the Australian Defence Force, as well as being a globally renowned cricket writer.

One of her strongest supporters is Lt General Morrison, who refused to accept her resignation when she went public and told him that she was causing embarrassment to his office.

Catch her exclusive interview today (5 July 13) with Jane Hutcheon on ABC's One Plus One Program, which airs on ABC1 at 1130h, ABC24 at 2030h or ABC iView.

Squadron Leader Vince Chong received a VCDF commendation on May 22 in recognition of his efforts as Chairman of the Defence Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Information Service (DEFGLIS).

It was SQNLDR Chong's efforts that resulted in a milestone decision allowing ADF personnel to march in uniform at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade in SYdney earlier this year.

Breakdown of Marriage Support provides services for partners of ADF members in relationship distress. While it is hoped that long-term relationships don't break down, sometimes they do, and so it is important that partners are aware of BOM Support.

"While we're called breakdown of marriage support, we aim support partners in any type of long-term partnership with an ADF member, whether currently serving or former serving," said BOM Support Director Tiffany Sharp. When an ADF relationship breaks down the partners who often rely on the ADF member for access to support services are often forgotten."

The ADF showed a united front in support of diversity inside its ranks on May 22 when personnel from all three services, Defence civilians and Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) cadets attended a dinner to mark International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) and to celebrate the launch of ADFA's new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) support network.

Chief of Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison, AO in a video to his troops says he "will be ruthless in ridding the Army of don't live up to its values."

The video follows allegations of unacceptable behaviour following the announcement on Thursday, 13 June 2013 of civilian police and Defence investigations into allegations of unacceptable behaviour by Army members.

"Those who think it is okay to behave in a way that demeans or exploits their colleagues have no place in this Army."

"No one has ever explained how the exploitation or degradation of others enhances capability, or honours the traditions of the Australian Army."

"The Army has to be an inclusive organisation, where every soldier, man and women can reach their full potential, and is encouraged to do so."

"If you're not up to it, find something else to do with your life. There is no place for you amongst this band of brothers and sisters."
