DEFGLIS and PwC develop stronger bonds at inaugural Perth event

At our inaugural Perth event, DEFGLIS and PwC came together to network and celebrate inclusivity within the workplace. DEFGLIS Member Danie Bunting tells us about the successful night that brought members of DEFGLIS and GLEE@PwC closer together.

On Saturday 15 February, DEFGLIS members partnered with PwC and laughed their way into DEFGLIS’s inaugural Perth event. Making the most of Perth’s Fringe World Festival, DEFGLIS and GLEE@PwC members, enjoyed some not-so-healthy burgers, before being entertained by Scottish stand-up comedian Larry Dean.

For Kyle Irvine, a Training Systems Officer in the Royal Australian Navy, this was his first engagement with DEFGLIS.

“Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It was fantastic to connect with other DSSG people within the defence community,” said Irvine.

In a first for DEFGLIS and GLEE@PwC members in Perth, the event provided an opportunity to engage at a grassroots level and to leverage on the strength of DEFGLIS’s relationship with PwC.

Danie Bunting, a Nursing Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, coordinated the event. During the event, he thanked PwC Australia for reaching out to the DEFGLIS community in Perth.

“Our common interests, shared purpose and vision for inclusivity, respect and community, makes for a seamless partnership with PwC. When GLEE approached us and offered to support and sponsor our inaugural event in Perth, we naturally had to jump at the opportunity,” said Bunting.

On the night, PwC GLEE Perth’s Site Lead Jonathan Banks, spoke of the importance of an inclusive and diverse workplace. He also expressed his excitement in cementing the bonds between GLEE and DEFGLIS.

“PwC Australia is delighted to support DEFGLIS in Western Australia in launching their inaugural event,” said Banks. “At GLEE@PwC, we understand the benefits an active and employee-lead inclusion network can bring to an organisation, and PwC Perth looks forward to working closely with DEFGLIS in Perth."

“Congratulations to the Australian Defence Force personnel in Perth on taking this important step in driving a more inclusive workplace.”

As the success of this event is realised, DEFGLIS members are excited for what the future holds for our association on the West Coast. Adam Whackett, a Combat Systems Operator in the Navy and DEFGLIS member for the last 6 years, said “It truly was an excellent night and I look with anticipation to future DEFGLIS events in Perth.”
